Soooo. Yeah. August 21st. That is a long time since my last post (also C’s birthday). Right after that, I headed back to work for the school year, and kind of, um, forgot to post. A crazy beginning to the school year, a brand-new kindergartner, selling our house, meetings on the new house, all sorts of excuses.
But, I’m here now!
So what have I been up to?
First and foremost, we sold our house. It is definitely bittersweet. Bittersweet because this is the very first home I lived in. I grew up in trailer homes and apartments.
But eight years ago, Husband and I bought this home, and we had many, many firsts and other memories here.
We brought two dogs home from rescue organizations. We fostered a dog on its way to its forever home. We brought two beautiful babies home to those dogs a few years later. We said goodbye to parents and grandparents while we lived here. We said goodbye to one of our rescued dogs.
My kids took their first steps here. Long before that, we had epic Rock Band parties that lasted days. Before that, I remember going to Target to buy a Thanksgiving tablecloth and coming home with a 44-inch flat screen television. Gotta tell you, that was definitely the most expensive tablecloth I ever bought.
In this home, I learned just how expensive a new furnace is. In this home, I learned how to install lighting fixtures without getting electrocuted. In this home, my family began and grew.
And in less than a month we will head off to work, school, and daycare for the last time.
It helps to know that we will be living in the next house for decades, near friends, near C’s school, and near wonderful activities and natural experiences for our family.
The right move
Because of these, I know this is the right thing, the next step for our family, and I am excited. In the long run, not having to replace a furnace or fix anything for at least a year will only reinforce that, I’m sure.
But no matter what, this home will always hold a huge place in my heart. As a reward for sticking through my heartfelt ramblings, here are the photos of our house from the listing.
