Hi. I’m still new here. I want to be around for awhile, and if we’re going to be friends, I need to share some things with you. That way you can get to know me a little better, and in the comments, I’d love for you to share something about yourself.
1. I swear a lot.
Seriously. I’m a veritable sailor between 3 pm when school gets out and 4:30 when I pick up the kids. To be honest, much to my husband’s chagrin, I swear a little more than I mean to, even around the kids. I’m working on it. I’ve also been holding my language back a little as I write here, but I can’t promise it will always stay that way.
2. I am a proud Hufflepuff.
I didn’t grow up on Harry Potter. The first book came out when I was a senior in high school/freshman in College, and at the time I was way too cool to read a kid’s book. This is highly amusing now since I am a school librarian and my job is literally kid’s books. But I picked up The Sorcerer’s Stone while working as a day camp counselor in the home I was staying in, and I couldn’t’ put it down. Before the week was over I’d read all the way through to Prisoner of Azkaban, and I was stuck waiting for #4 with everyone else. I’m currently collecting the illustrated editions in anticipation of reading them aloud to my children in a few years (Chamber of Secrets here) No matter how much I wanted to be a Ravenclaw (I think I’m pretty smart after all) I am continuously sorted into Hufflepuff. I’ve learned to love it and be proud because Hufflepuff’s are the most loving.
Plus, our common room is by the kitchens and I do love me some snacks.
3. I have one master’s degree, but I have the equivalent of one master’s and one doctorate, or 3 master’s.
I have a learning problem. I was basically a first generation college student. My grandfather had a degree, but my parents and their siblings do not. None of my older cousins went to college, so I was first. I had no idea what I was doing. I joined every organization around, and classes were an afterthought. I declared a major in Art – Photography. L. O. L.
I am not an artist. One semester of drawing and I was out of there. I dabbled in several majors before finally graduating with a degree in vocal music. LOL again. But, I had that oh-so-important bachelor’s and I figured I’d figure out my life in grad school. Which I did. I became a teacher. And that is definitely where I’m supposed to be. It also hooked me up with 24 graduate credits. Adding a reading license and a master’s brought my total up over 60. Putting a librarian license on top of that, and I’m sitting around 96 post-grad credits. Whew. That’s a lot of debt.
4. I have moved 22 times in my life. Twenty-two.
We moved a lot as a kid. We’d moved 8 times by the time I started high school. Then, I moved to college, and even counting that as only one move, my total hits 22 by the time we bought our current house. Moving into our new house will be move 23 for me, and it will be my last, if I have any control over it.
Bonus though, I’m really good at efficient packing, and adapting to new situations.

5. I go by my middle name.
I use my middle name. A few years ago I realized that I was kind of an awful person. I said things I didn’t mean, just to be counted as one of the “cool kids”. I didn’t like who I was. So I underwent a self-renewal, and started going by my middle name, Marie.
That’s it. Five little, random things that you didn’t know about me, but now do. I feel good about this, like we really started to connect here, right? How about you? How you feeling? What can you tell me about yourself? I want to get to know you too.
