We got word last week that the city had finally returned the go ahead on all our permits for the new house! Building a new house is so fun!
But. Then. Ugh.
Yes, our permits are back, and this is awesome, but we still have a 2-3 week wait to break ground. I swear, building a new house is 90% waiting.
Since we signed on the dotted line so early in this development, we got our pick of lots, but we also had to wait with everyone else. Groundbreaking happens according to who went under contract first, and we are 6th in line.
When I talked to our site supervisor (ie: contractor, who is amazing) he said they are hoping to get two foundations poured a week, so we’re looking at 3 weeks.
Whomp again. I feel like there are a lot of whomps in my life lately.
please build my house, Mr. Whomp, I promise to be good to you.
How I’m passing the time aka Building a New House Means Buying Stuff.
Aside from going back to work (three meetings last week, one tomorrow, then back to the grindstone Tuesday, how is it time for this already??), I do a LOT of pinning. And shopping. I study our blueprints and find furniture to fit some of the missing pieces. I store ideas on my Amazon wishlist and numerous Pinterest boards.
This makes it easy for me to narrow down my first few purchases once we’re actually in the house.
1. Cozy comfy blankets
2. A sleeper-sofa
I am DIGGING this sleeper sectional from Ikea. We opted to turn the 4th bedroom upstairs into a loft, which I will use as an office/playroom for the kids. I would like to have a sleeper sofa in there to have one more place for guests to sleep when the house is full at holidays. I love the way this sofa stores the bed, and also has storage for bedding. Feel free to buy this for me, shoot me an email for the delivery address. 😉 (Dark gray fabric, plz)
3. Boring purchase ahead – you’ve been warned.
We opted for no carpet on the main floor. We currently have two vacuums, and this way one can stay upstairs, one in the finished basement, and we don’t really have to worry much about the main level and vacuuming. The current rug in our master bedroom will be our living room rug. I love it, and I can’t bear to leave it behind. But it is thin. Which is fine in the bedroom, we don’t spend a lot of time on it. But in the living room, I want some cushion. So once we have a closing date, I’ll be ordering this baby for the living room. Told ya it was boring.
Ok. This one probably will have to wait awhile, but man. I really really want one. We have an Echo and 2 Echo Dots right now. What can I say, I love technology. I want one of these guys for my kitchen/living area in the new house. I can see who is at the door when the doorbell rings, have recipes up on the screen when I’m cooking, watch videos for spontaneous dance parties, the list goes on and on. Want. But $$$. (maybe in white though?)
I am obsessed with these. We opted to do all our own hardware in the kitchen and bathrooms, mirrors too. Obviously first up are mirrors and bathroom hardware. I mean, the kitchen cupboards will open with or without it, but I needs me a place to put my butt-tissue. I love the idea of these pivoting holders, because even my kids can operate them, and there’s no tension piece to fly around the room in the middle of the night. (is that just me?)
