Celebrating a trip around the sun

I simply refuse to believe that my baby boy, this guy:

is already one year old. And, at this pint, he's one year and 2 weeks old. Not cool, little boy, not cool. Here's his birth story, if you're curious.

A couple weeks ago, we had a party for him. I started with this fabulous invitation custom-made by my talented friend Katie of Pickle Potamus Press. (She is currently on vacation catching up on custom orders and building inventory.)

Seriously, every time I have Katie make me something (she also did our Christmas cards) I get SO MANY compliments on the work. I don't have enough fingers and toes to count how many people told me they loved these invitations.

Once the invites were out, it was time to really get down to the heart of the planning. Like any self-respecting stay-at-home-mom, I scoured pinterest, making a specific board for C's party.

Thankfully, I have the best friends and the best mother on the planet, and they all agreed to come over very early on the day of the party to be put to work. Since there's a lot I was unable to do at 37 weeks pregnant as far as carting canopies around, and heavy crockpots full of nacho meat and hot dogs. I'm a list-maker and I started a to-do list for each individual.
The night before I made sure I had serving dishes and enough crockpots. The menu:
Hot Dogs
Nachos
Cracker Jacks
Popcorn
Cupcakes
Cake

Toppings:
Onions
Olives
Nacho Cheese
Ketchup
Mustard
Relish
Tomatoes
Homemade Salsa
Sour Cream
Jalepenos

For decorations, we used astro turf as a table cloth on the food table. BFF-J and I made pennant banners reading "Concessions" and "Happy Birthday Charlie". BFF-H blew up dozens of balloons. (Charlie was fascinated, and a big fan of the balloons.)

BFF-K hung a lot of streamers behind the food tables to hide the garage.

After cake we opened gifts and C wasted no time climbing into his new wagon.
The next morning we organized and determined that the kid was so lucky we had to turn our basement into a pseudo playroom. More on that later.
And of course, the obligatory cake smash picture:
