Quite literally working our butts off.

Whew. On Saturday and Sunday, N, my mom and I (and C) spent the entire weekend in our front yard. We have been trying to amp up the curb appeal of our house, jazz it up a bit before we invite 60-70 people over to celebrate C's first birthday.

When we moved into the house, it wasn't bad. There were 3 bushes along the front of the house, but I don't like bushes, so those were on the list to go. This is what our house looked like from the curb as of last year.

Two weekends ago, N, my mom and I spend two days outside trying to jazz up the front. We have some plans for the front, they're listed on the project page. But for ease, I'll put them here too:
build a patio on the front of the house
plants in containers for front steps
remove rock from front
email the city about the boulevard tree
overseed the lawn in front
dedicated space for recycling bins
edge sidewalk with brick
mini-retaining gardens at sidewalk
hostas by sidewalk

As you can see, we've made good progress. All that's left is to plant some hostas and lay a patio and plant a bush. This is largely because of my mother. The woman is incredible. In just over one day, we got this done:
All that edging, mulch and lights along the sidewalk. It looks fantastic. Neighbors have commented, the grocery delivery guy and the UPS guy have all commented on how great it looks. After C is in bed, I typically take my water out and sit on the front steps and just enjoy. Soon enough there will be a nice little patio with seating on the right (as you look at it) side of the house, but for now, I sit on the front steps.

This was a big project I wanted to get done before C's party. I can't wait to see it lined with balloons on party day :)

  1. It does look fantastic. I can't get over how awesome it is--and how you managed in one weekend!
