House Organization, what's your style?

I've been thinking about undertaking a serious change in our home organization and cleaning style. I love organization. I spend free time perusing organize.com and the Container Store. When I'm feeling down, I call up the BFF and we make a field trip to the container store. (Discount for teachers!) I had a very happy day when my new mail bin came and I got to get the mail off the table.

So, since I spend a lot of time in the house these days (summer school starts Monday though, woohoo!) I've been contemplating our cleaning and organization style. I've thought about doing a "Happy House Challenge" at My Happy House, but frankly, I'm turned off by the first week, which is make your bed. (That's a great blog though, for anyone looking for inspiration). I've also checked out flylady.com, but holy cats is that not the website for me. It's chaos to me. Which is ironic, when you think about it.

Why am I turned off by making my bed? Well, because that's not the first step for me. Our bedroom is it's own floor, a floor that no one goes in but Hubs and I. We don't care about making our bed.

So, I'm going to make my own challenge for myself. First step? Keep the counters clean. Our kitchen counters and bathroom "counters" and sinks (they're more just sink edges) are constantly gathering crud. My goal for this week is to put the dishes right into the dishwasher, and put the contact solution away.

This is the beginning of my "develop a cleaning schedule" goal for my 101 in 1001 project.

Anyone want to join me in my challenge? Make up your own if you want, but just do something!

update: I think I'm going to document my progress this week in photos, look for an update next weekend! (I know, I know, how will you contain your excitement waiting for photos of my sinks?!)

  1. I think that is a good idea. My mom and I have done the same thing. Cause hair gags me out she takes care of the bathroom counter daily and I take care of the kitchen counters daily and it goes a long way to making your house feel cleaner (course those are the main two surfaces in our apt.) ;) Good luck. It has become habit now with us.
